Moving Day
Jun. 2nd, 2023 07:50 pmIt had been a hustle to get everything all lined up in a month, but today Daniel and Tom had signed the lease and moved into their new apartment in Orchard Heights. Their new apartment. He couldn’t get over that, even though he’d suggested it in the first place.
He hadn’t had that much to pack from Dimera, and Tom hadn’t either. Neither of them had a lot of stuff, other than books. Most of the work related to moving in had actually been the process of getting new furniture and deciding where it all should go. Tom turned out to have more opinions than Daniel about that, so Daniel let him make those calls other than things like his gun safe and where the chair next to Daniel’s side of the bed needed to be.
After discussing possibilities and options, they had turned the second bedroom into an office, and he could tell already that he was going to enjoy working in the same room as Tom when they were both working from home. With desks in the same room, they could talk to each other when they needed to but neither of them required conversation if they didn’t need it.
Earlier that day, after they’d officially signed the lease and arranged at least the major pieces of furniture, they’d gone to Yeselevsky’s to get groceries so the new fridge was stocked with fruits, veggies, and a few less healthy things. He’d never actually told Mira that he and Tom were involved, but she’d figured it out. Her only reaction had been to give them both more cookies on that day, which he decided was a sign of approval.
Tom had found an all-in-one music system somewhere that could play cassette tapes, compact discs, and vinyl records. He’d said it would allow them to play music from any time period they wanted to hear and he’d put it on a little table in the living room so it could fill the apartment with music.
Daniel looked at it now, and it gave him an idea. While Tom was in the office doing something or other, Daniel put an Ella Fitzgerald record on. Just as Tom came back into the living room, Ms. Fitzgerald started singing about having a crush, and Daniel held his hand out to his steady.
“Dance with me?”
