Fancy meeting you here

It'd been a completely normal Friday at the precinct. Daniel had gone to work, gotten his coffee, worked on his cases, met with a few people, had lunch, and repeated the morning. He'd finished up right on time and hadn't needed to take anything home with him in his briefcase.

In celebration of how rare that was, he stopped by the Thai place for some shrimp pad Thai and spring rolls. They were running a special on bubble tea to go with the food, but he didn't really like chewing his drinks, as much as he made jokes about coffee being strong enough to chew. Besides, he had drinks at home already.

He happened to get to the apartment building about the time Tom did, and he smiled. They ended up having takeout dinner together on a regular basis and it was always nice to spend a little time with his friend. They'd known each other for about a year now, and even though they hadn't been friends that whole time, it kind of felt like they had been. He could talk to Tom about a lot of things and hoped Tom felt the same way about him.

"Evening," he greeted his friend easily. "No one roped you into chaperoning anything tonight?"
