Interviewing
Dec. 8th, 2020 08:03 pm He hadn't been this nervous for a job interview for awhile. The shipyard took him because he was young and healthy, the Army took him because he volunteered during a war, and the gun store had taken him because the owner needed an extra pair of hands. He'd been pretty nervous for his SSR interview, but that was partially because they'd approached him, and he still wasn't real sure how they had decided Captain Daniel Sousa was a good fit for what they needed. Turned out he was, so whatever made them approach him wasn't wrong, but he'd never gotten a straight answer on that. He'd never really expected one, either. It was the SSR, after all. He hadn't even known they existed till they'd found him, and that was the way they wanted it.
He wanted to do well because he wanted the job, but also so that whatever favors John had maybe called in to get him the interview wouldn't come back to be a problem for his friend. So he'd asked Mary if she'd be willing to give him a mock job interview, just to kind of get an idea of the way he should maybe be answering the questions they might ask. He wasn't sure how much detail he'd need to give about his leg or the SSR to either her or the interviewers, but part of him thought he probably ought to explain some of that to her anyway. They'd been seeing each other for awhile, after all. There were things she probably ought to know before she decided if she wanted to keep seeing him.
He'd invited her to his apartment so they could talk in private and had set up his dining room so they could sit on either sides of the table like he would in a real interview. He'd even put on a tie so he wouldn't be too comfortable. Now he just had to wait for her to arrive.
